There are several thanks in order for those whose contributions and participation helped make this year’s event a success:
Special thanks are extended to Ayanna and Danya Wilson, sisters of President Nikki Wilson, who helped with the set-up and break-down of the event, ran errands before the event, made posters, cookies, updated mailing lists, put labels and stamps on postcards, washed dishes, swept the floor…well anything and everything their big sister asked--whether they wanted to or not. Now how sweet is that!
Clark Atlanta student Rhonda Hogan, who began her internship with Dream Makers Youth Foundation this summer, and was very instrumental in the planning and development of this year’s event. She made countless follow-up calls to coaches and potential sponsors, updated e-mail lists, researched grant opportunities, and so much more!
Mark Selbee who has been instrumental in our fundraising efforts, a role model and friend to our young wheelchair athletes, and has introduced several of his friends to our organization, and opened their eyes to the abilities, rather than the disabilities, of our wheelchair athletes. You are truly appreciated.
DJ Masta Gee for volunteering his time and expertise for the entire event--rockin’ the crowd and our event participants, including my guy Leo, who couldn’t sit still while Greg played most of his favorites, including T.I.’s “Big Things Poppin.’”
Youth Quake Team Atlanta (YQTA) for volunteering throughout the day, for bringing a team to compete, and for assisting with keeping score and stats.
Thanks to Christopher and Malika King for their lending their air walk to our children’s fair.
Thank-you Gavin for recruiting wheelchair athletes.
Clark Atlanta student Kasheyna McDonald for lending her expertise in public relations and marketing. ‘Sheena’ played a significant role in the development and disbursement of our marketing and recruiting material, and was responsible for setting up our interview with Rolling Out Magazine.
DMYF would also like to applaud Sara Diggins, 2007 International Junior Miss, who was in attendance. After giving Secretary Patricia Wilson a private musical acapela solo, Miss Diggins assisted with the awards ceremony. DMYF wishes Miss Diggins the best of luck as she continues her reign.
BJ’s Wholesale Club for donating water bottles to sell in our concession stand.
Mike Glover, the owner of Nancy’s Pizzeria, for donating pizza to sell in our concession stand.
Jennifer Lehren from the Atlanta Spirit for donating draw string back packs, and the coolest Hawks memorabilia--enough to supply all our event participants and the raffle prizes we gave away throughout the event.
Stacey Miller from The Melting Pot for donating two $25 gift certificates for raffle prizes
Dave & Buster’s of Atlanta for donating $100 in gift cards for raffle prizes
Kay Koch of Mobility Designs for donating water bottles for gifts of participation
Zayra Fosse of Coca-Cola Enterprises for donating Powerade powder for our athletes to drink throughout the tournament
U.S. Play by Brunswick for donating bowling gift certificates for our participants
Don Barbour of AT&T for donating gift bags
Adrienne Gadling from Rolling Out Magazine for writing an article about our organization and the tournament, with hopes of soliciting sponsors and recruiting teams.
DMYF would also like to thank our volunteers who came out to help, and for their willingness to help in any way asked. Thanks you Veda Blount, Rajeeyah Edmonson, Eric Samson, Alecia Brown, Michael LaVigne, Nate LaVigne, Claudius Wood, Stephan Sullivan, Asaad Tate, Sajon Tate, and Nadevia Richardson.
